What are Velcro patches?
A Velcro patch has a hook and loop backing. The patch carries one half, usually the hook side, and your cap, vest, bag or uniform carries the matching loop half. You press them together to attach the patch and peel them apart to remove it. This makes Velcro patches a good fit when patches change often.
Velcro patches are real patches with a different backing. An embroidered patch is classic thread on twill with a merrow border. A woven patch uses thin, tightly woven thread for fine text and detail. A PVC rubber patch is molded soft PVC that is waterproof and flexible. All three can be made with Velcro backing.

How to attach and remove Velcro patches
You need your Velcro patch, a loop surface or the matching loop piece, and a needle and thread or a sewing machine.
- Check which Velcro option you ordered. With hook side only, your item needs a loop surface. With hook and loop, you get a matching loop piece.
- Place the loop piece on the item where you want the patch and mark the edges.
- Sew the loop piece to the item with small stitches around the edge. Use thread that matches the item.
- Press the hook side of the patch against the loop piece until it grips.
- To remove the patch, peel it back slowly from one corner.
Close the hook against the loop piece, or remove the patch, before you wash the item. This keeps the hooks from catching other fabric.
