Custom woven patches, where every small detail stays sharp.

Thinner thread, tighter weave, sharper results. Woven patches capture fine text, intricate logos, and complex designs that embroidery simply cannot. Smooth, flat, lightweight, and built to hold up through years of wear and washing. When detail matters more than texture, woven is the answer.

The Detail One

What makes woven patches different?

Woven patches are made by weaving thin polyester threads together on a computerized loom, integrating the design directly into the fabric itself. Unlike embroidered patches, where thicker thread is stitched on top of a twill backing, woven patches build the design into the weave. The thread is the fabric.

The result is a patch that is thinner, smoother, and flatter than embroidery, with significantly sharper resolution on fine detail. Text as small as 2mm (roughly 5pt font) stays legible on a woven patch, compared to about 3mm (8pt) on embroidered. Thin lines, small lettering, intricate crests, and detailed logos all come out cleaner.

Woven patches also use colorfast polyester threads that remain vibrant through regular washing. Industry testing shows woven patches withstand 50 or more domestic wash cycles without noticeable fading or fraying.

If your design has small text, fine lines, or complex detail that embroidery would blur or lose, woven is the right choice.

Who orders woven patches most?

Fashion and clothing brands

Brand labels, logo patches for hats, jackets, and bags. The flat, refined finish fits modern fashion aesthetics better than raised embroidery.

Corporate and professional organizations

Company logos, employee name patches, event credentials. Clean text reproduction makes corporate branding look precise and polished.

Sports teams and athletic wear.

Team crests, league patches, sponsor logos. Woven patches sit flat against performance fabrics without adding bulk.

Military and uniformed groups

Flag patches, unit patches, rank identifiers. Woven holds the fine detail in insignia that embroidery would merge or blur.

Promotional product companies

Branded merchandise, giveaway patches, conference swag. Lightweight and cost-effective at high volumes.

Designers and personal projects

Custom labels, art patches, collectible designs. Woven gives independent creators a professional finish at small-batch quantities.

Not sure woven is right for you? Here is how it compares to the alternatives.

Woven vs Embroidered.

Woven vs Embroidered.

Woven: Thin thread woven flat, smooth surface, fine detail down to 2mm text. Embroidered: Thick thread stitched on top, raised texture, bold look. Woven captures small text and complex logos better. Embroidered gives more visual depth and a classic feel. Choose woven for detail. Choose embroidered for texture.

Woven vs PVC

Woven: Flat, lightweight, fabric-based. PVC: Molded rubber, waterproof, 3D raised surface. Completely different applications. Choose woven for clothing, hats, and fashion. Choose PVC for tactical gear and outdoor use.

Woven vs Chenille

Woven vs Chenille

Woven: The thinnest, flattest patch type. Chenille: The thickest, plushest patch type. Opposite ends of the spectrum. Choose woven for refined detail. Choose chenille for bold, tactile, varsity-style patches.

Woven vs Printed

Woven vs Printed

Woven: Thread-based, durable, professional textile finish. Printed: Ink on fabric, unlimited colors, photo-realistic. Woven lasts longer and feels more premium. Printed handles gradients and photographic images. Choose woven for logos and text. Choose printed for complex full-color artwork.

FAQ

Common questions about woven patches.

Straight answers to everything people ask before placing an order.

How are woven patches different from embroidered?

The key difference is how the design is made. Embroidered patches stitch thick thread on top of a fabric backing, creating a raised surface. Woven patches weave thin thread together on a loom, integrating the design into the fabric itself. Woven is thinner, smoother, and captures much finer detail.

How small can text be on a woven patch?

Text stays legible down to about 2mm (roughly 5pt font). That is significantly smaller than embroidery, which starts losing clarity below 3mm (8pt). If your design has a website URL, tagline, or small print, woven is the better choice.

How many colors can a woven patch have?

Up to 12 colors per design from a palette of 79 available weaving colors. Metallic thread is available but counts as 4 colors. Minimum of 2 colors per design.

Are woven patches durable?

Yes. Woven patches use colorfast polyester thread and withstand 50 or more domestic wash cycles without noticeable fading or fraying. For most applications, they will outlast the garment they are attached to.

Are woven patches thinner than embroidered?

Yes, noticeably thinner and lighter. The flat, smooth surface sits closer to the garment, which makes woven patches ideal for hats, lightweight fabrics, and applications where a bulky raised patch would not work.

What border options are available?

Merrow border (overlocked thread edge, most common), overlock border, or borderless (clean cut with no visible border). Borderless works best for irregular shapes and modern, minimal designs.

Can I get metallic thread on a woven patch?

Yes. Metallic thread is available for design elements but counts as 4 colors. Metallic thread cannot be used on merrow or overlock borders, only within the patch design itself.

What backing works best for woven?

Iron-on is the most popular because woven patches are thin and bond flat to the garment. Sew-on is the most durable long-term option. Velcro and adhesive also available.

What is the minimum order?

50 pieces for standard woven patches.

How long does production take?

10 to 18 days from proof approval. Rush options available.
